# CDC PLACES

CDC's model-based county estimates of adult health from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS): obesity, current smoking, no leisure-time physical activity, diabetes, high blood pressure, binge drinking, frequent mental and physical distress, fair or poor health, any disability, uninsured adults 18-64, food insecurity and lack of reliable transportation, each the age-adjusted prevalence.

## Measures

The key is the measure's identifier in Cadastre. A measure stored for the metro itself is read as stored; **Rule from counties** is how a metro is assembled from its counties where it is not (see [Methodology](https://getcadastre.com/docs/methodology)).

## Known gaps and caveats

- Model-based small-area estimates, not county surveys; CDC cautions against using them to evaluate local programmes.
- Kentucky and Pennsylvania have no 2023 estimates in this release, so a metro mostly in those states has no value (it needs counties holding 80% of its adults).
- Food insecurity and lack of reliable transportation come from BRFSS's social-needs module, which only 39 states and DC asked.
- Age-adjusted rates are for comparing places; they are not the share of a county's actual adults.
