Measures

The key is the measure's identifier in Cadastre. A measure stored for the metro itself is read as stored; Rule from counties is how a metro is assembled from its counties where it is not (see Methodology).

KeyLabelUnitRule from counties
cdc_drug_overdose_death_rateDrug overdose death rate, per 100,000 (CDC)deaths per 100,000 residents in the calendar year (CDC county rates from NCHS death records, by county of residence; counties with 1-9 deaths are suppressed by CDC and left out); metro value is Cadastre's population-weighted average of CDC county ratesmean of member counties weighted by Population, over the counties with a value (unavailable where those hold under 80% of it)

Known gaps and caveats

  • CDC suppresses counts of 1 to 9 deaths and publishes a modelled rate in their place. Those counties have no value in Cadastre (never the modelled rate, never 0); a published count of 0 is a real 0.
  • All drugs, not opioids alone.
  • Connecticut replaced its eight counties with nine planning regions, which Census geography now uses; this file still uses the legacy counties, so Connecticut metros have no value.
  • The trailing-twelve-months period is not imported.
