GeographiesCounty, from each record's reported point placed in the current census tract (or county) that holds it. A metro's count is the sum of its counties'; its rate per 100,000 is its pooled count over its pooled population.

Measures

The key is the measure's identifier in Cadastre. A measure stored for the metro itself is read as stored; Rule from counties is how a metro is assembled from its counties where it is not (see Methodology).

Known gaps and caveats

  • A registry count, not contamination: a listed place, or one nearby, says nothing about the condition of a particular parcel.
  • Final NPL sites only; proposed and deleted sites are stored but not counted. Active large quantity generators only. The RCRA corrective-action count is EPA's 2020 baseline universe, completed remedies included.
  • Points are as EPA reports them; some are geocoded addresses with low stated accuracy, which can put a site near a county line in the neighbouring county.
  • EPA notes that the TRI Basic Data Files can differ from its TRI National Analysis, and that its geospatial data are not intended for use in establishing liability.
